Whole-home humidification for Colorado's dry winters, high-efficiency filtration for wildfire smoke, and fresh-air ventilation for tight homes.
Denver's air is famously dry, and in recent summers wildfire smoke has drifted into the metro from fires across the West. Both show up inside your home: cracked lips and static shocks in winter, gaps in wood floors and millwork, and a smoky haze that a basic filter cannot stop. Besties HVAC Solutions designs indoor air quality solutions that work with your heating and cooling system, not against it.
We start by understanding your home and what bothers you, then recommend only what will make a measurable difference.
Indoor humidity in Denver homes often drops very low during heating season. That can mean dry skin and sinuses, static shocks, and shrinking gaps in hardwood floors, cabinetry, instruments and fine art. A whole-home humidifier connected to your furnace or air handler adds moisture evenly to every room, controlled automatically so windows do not fog or frost. Bypass and fan-powered models suit most homes, and steam humidifiers deliver precise control for larger luxury homes, collections and wine or music rooms where stable humidity matters.
Wildfire smoke is made of very fine particles. MERV 13 filters capture a much larger share of fine particles than standard filters, but a thin MERV 13 filter jammed into a slot designed for a basic filter can choke airflow. The right approach is a 4 or 5 inch media filter cabinet sized to your system, so you get high filtration with low resistance. On smoky days, running the system fan continuously keeps air moving through the filter. For sensitive households, we can add air purification as a further layer.
Newer homes and well-remodeled older homes are built tight, which is good for energy use but can trap cooking odors, moisture and indoor pollutants. An energy recovery ventilator (ERV) brings in filtered fresh air while recovering much of the heating or cooling energy from the outgoing air. It is a common recommendation in new construction and in homes with high-performance heat pump systems.
Radon is common in Colorado and is not removed by filtration or ventilation equipment designed for comfort. It is handled with a dedicated radon mitigation system. We recommend testing every home, and we will point you to a specialist if needed. Similarly, if a carbon monoxide alarm sounds, that is a safety emergency first.
